PHOENIX -- The Kansas Royals had given Danny Duffy almost no run support over his previous four starts and little all season, so they were anxious give him something, anything against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tommy McDonald Jersey . Ten runs on three swings did the trick nicely. Billy Butler had a three-run homer among his four hits, Nori Aoki hit a grand slam and the Royals gave Duffy some rare run support by bashing the Diamondbacks 12-2 on Tuesday night. "Our pitching has picked us up all year and for us to give Duffy some support like that, especially a guy we havent been giving any to, was big for us," said Butler, who had three hits his previous game. The Royals started early, battering Wade Miley (7-8) for 10 runs by the fifth inning. Salvador Perez had the first big blow with a three-run homer in the third inning and Butler added another three-run shot during Kansas Citys eight-run fifth. Aoki capped the big inning with his first career slam, marking the first time the Royals had a grand slam and three-run homer in the same inning. Kansas City had 10 of its 15 hits -- three by Perez -- by the fifth inning and had a season-high in runs, allowing Duffy (6-10) to cruise to his first win since June 30. Not bad for a team thats missing its best hitter (Eric Hosmer) and entered the game with 62 homers in 110 games, by far the fewest in the majors. "You score 10 runs off of three swings of the bat, youll take it," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "Im not really (used to it), but Ill take it when I can get it." The Royals have mostly struggled when Duffy has pitched this season, producing 2.34 runs of support, lowest in the majors among pitchers with at least 100 innings. The left-hander had allowed a run or less in 11 of 16 starts, yet was 4-5 in those, including four straight losses. That changed in a big way against the Diamondbacks and Miley. Arizonas left-hander had been sharp over his previous six starts, going 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA, including 6 2-3 scoreless innings his last outing. The Royals hit Miley hard early, starting with Perezs 13th homer in the third inning. Butler added his own three-run shot in the fifth and, after a pair of wild pitches by Miley, Aoki put the capper on the big inning with his first career grand slam on the first pitch by reliever Bo Schultz. Miley allowed nine hits and walked three. "Everything I threw was in the middle of the plate," Miley said. "You cant find success up here when you are living in the middle of the plate." Duffy got off to a rough start, giving up a pair of doubles in the first inning, including one by Mark Trumbo that scored the games first one. The left-hander was sharp after that, allowing three hits and striking out seven in five innings to end a five-start winless streak. "This was not a good night for us all around," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "We had some opportunities and couldnt come through." MILESTONES Royals LF Alex Gordon reached a big milestone in the fifth inning, lining a single for his 1,000th career hit -- all with Kansas City. He became the 10th player in franchise history to reach 1,000 hits and joined Butler, seventh on the list with 1,231. ... Trumbo played his 500th career game. AOKIS HOMER Aoki hit 10 homers as a rookie in 2012 and eight last season, but had yet to clear the fences this season. He finally cleared the wall in the fifth inning, ending a streak that stretched 338 at-bats to Sept. 27, 2013. "I knew it was coming, somewhere down the road," Yost said. "Glad to see it today." TRAINERS ROOM Diamondbacks: OF A.J. Pollock, out since June 1 with a broken right hand, was 0 for 5 in his first game with Triple-A Reno. He was 1 for 3 in two games with Arizonas rookie league team. ON DECK: Royals: RHP Yordano Ventura will start Wednesdays game against Arizona after picking up his eighth win of the season the last time out. If the analysis of the B sample does not confirm the findings in the A sample, the athlete is cleared to compete.WADA Director General David Howman said: The B sample helps confirm that an anti-doping rule violation has occurred and protects the rights of the athletes. It should be stressed that anti-doping is one of the few types of controls in society in which a confirmation procedure is used in order to protect individuals, and the very rare cases in which the analysis of the B-sample did not match the results of the A-sample have shown the usefulness of such procedure. PITTSBURGH -- Expanded instant replay has a new fan in Starling Marte. At least, that is, when the Pittsburgh Pirates are on the right side of it. The speedy outfielder was called out, then ruled safe on a replay review with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Pirates over San Francisco 2-1 Tuesday night and ending the Giants six-game winning streak. It was 1-all when Marte tripled off the right-field wall against Tim Hudson. Marte slid into third, got up and bolted home when the relay from second baseman Ehire Adrianza skipped by third baseman Pablo Sandoval for an error. Sandoval recovered to throw home and plate umpire Quinn Wolcott initially ruled Marte was tagged by San Francisco catcher Buster Posey. A brief review showed Martes right hand touched the plate before Poseys glove swiped Martes chest. Marte joked he likes replay "sometimes" but never doubted which way the call would go one the umpires took a longer look. "I know I was safe," Marte said. "It was just about waiting for the umpire to make the decision." Pirates manager Clint Hurdle raced out of the dugout to challenge the call. He wasnt sure at the time whether Marte was safe for not, but figured Marte deserved the benefit of the doubt. "Its an aggressive play," Hurdle said. "We continue to talk about being aggressive. We cant use the safety brakes." A night after rallying from a six-run deficit to win a five-hour, 13-inning marathon, the Giants were stunned when Martes drive and Adrianzas miscue ruined an otherwise spectacular effort from Hudson (4-2). The veteran right-hander allowed two runs on five hits in 8 2-3 innings, striking out five and walking one. The only Pirate to advance past second base over the final seven innings was Marte. "Replay is going to provide the final conclusion," Hudson said. "It is what it is and youve got to accept it. But its frustrating to be to the end of a call that cost you the ballgame. Ive seen calls that were closer than that but werent overturned." Tony Watson (3-0) worked around two singles in the ninth to earn the win. Marte scored both Pittsburgh runs and Ike Davis added two hits as the Pirates won ffor just the fourth time in their last 13 games. Mike Ditka Bears Jersey. Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton pitched eight sparkling innings, giving up one unearned run and three hits, walking two and striking out three. "The pitches he made to the top four hitters, theyre as good as Ive seen him make," Hurdle said. "He had those guys, there were some hard at-bats. There was good pitching. He hit his spots, changed his speed." Both teams were looking for length out of their starters after San Franciscos 11-10 the night before left their bullpens taxed. Going deep into games hasnt been a problem for Hudson, who worked with his typical efficiency while giving the relievers some needed down time. The 38-year-old has thrown at least seven innings in all seven of his starts this season. He had little trouble getting through eight innings, keeping the Pirates off-balance with his typically impeccable control. Marte reached on an infield single with one out in the second and moved to third on a single just inside the first-base bag by Davis before scoring on a groundout by Tony Sanchez. San Franciscos only run came in the second as Sanchezs throwing issues from behind the plate resurfaced. Brandon Belt hit a leadoff single, stole second and moved to third when Sanchezs throw sailed into shallow centre field. Belt scored on Adrianzas sacrifice fly. NOTES: Pirates LHP Wandy Rodriguez was rocked in his second rehab start while recovering from right knee inflammation. Rodriguez, who is eligible to come off the disabled list, gave up seven runs in 5 1-3 innings, striking out four and walking three while surrendering two home runs at Double-A Altoona. ... The Giants called up RHP reliever George Kontos from Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday and sent Jake Dunning back to the minors. Kontos had a 4.91 ERA in 18 1-3 innings in Fresno. ... San Francisco LHP reliever David Huff, on the disabled list since April 21 a strained left quad, could begin a rehab assignment at Triple- A Fresno on Thursday. Huff threw 70 pitches in a bullpen session on Monday without any setbacks. ... The series concludes on Wednesday. (SportsNetwork. Joe Flacco Ravens Jersey .com) - The Chicago Blackhawks will try to post consecutive wins for the first time in 2015 when they welcome the Winnipeg Jets for Fridays Central Division battle at United Center. Chicago is 3-3-0 so far in January, alternating losses and wins since the start of the new calendar year. The Blackhawks last put together two wins with victories over Colorado and Nashville on Dec. 27 and 29, respectively. The Blackhawks have been idle since beginning a four-game homestand with Sundays 4-1 win over Minnesota. Marian Hossa, Bryan Bickell and Brad Richards all posted a goal with an assist as the Chicago Blackhawks downed the reeling Wild and improved to 15-5-1 on home ice this season. It always feels good to find the back of the net, said Bickell, who has four goals over his last five games and nine on the season. Johnny Oduya also lit the lamp for Chicago, which is tied with St. Louis for second in the Central Division at 58 points. Winnipeg is only four points behind the Blackhawks in the division standings and also holds a four-point lead over Los Angeles for the first wild card spot in the Western Conference. Corey Crawfords shutout bid was spoiled by Minnesotas Matt Cooke with 4:52 remaining in regulation, but the All-Star goaltender was otherwise stellar in a 36-save performance. Crawford will get the start tonight. He is 3-3-0 with a 2.11 goals against average in six career games against the Jets. Winnipeg, however, is 2-0 against the Blackhawks so far in the five-game season series and has claimed three straight after dropping its previous seven tilts versus Chicago. The Jets, who are 13-5-5 as the guest this season, also have won three in a row in the Windy City. Winnipeg will aim for its first three-game winning streak since early November when it takes the ice tonight in the Windy City. After recording an 8-2 rout of visiting Florida on Tuesday, the Jets began a brief two-game swing with Thursdays close victory over Dallas. Ondrej Pavelec was spectacular in net as he stopped 46 shots to help the Jets notch a 2-1 win at American Airlines Center. Pavelec came 76 seconds from a shutout, as Trevor Daley scored for the Stars with just 1:16 remaining in regulation. I felt good tonight, but its only one game, said Pavelec. It was big for me as well. I needed this one. Evander Kane scored a short-handed goal and Michael Frolik also lit the lamp for the Jets, who were outshot 38-11 by Dallas in the second and third periods. Winnipeg has won three in a row only once this season, going 3-0 from Nov. 1-4. Michael Hutchinson is expected to start tonight and the 24-year-old owns a 2-0 record and .50 GAA in his brief career against Blackhawks. One of his two outings against Chicago came earlier this season at United Center on Nov. 2, when Hutchinson made 33 saves for the lone shutout of his career. Following tonights contest, the Jets will play two straight on home ice beginning with Sundays matchup against Arizona. Steve Smith Sr Ravens Jersey . -- Peyton Manning is the only player in this Super Bowl who has won the big game. Steve Smith Sr Womens Jersey . -- The defending Canadian womens curling champions squandered an opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the standings Tuesday at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. BOSTON - Every night for the last three weeks, Jeremy Abbott had the same nightmare. Rob Housler Bears Jersey . Hed implode in the short program of the U.S. Championships, buried in seventh place with an Olympic berth out of reach. "I would wake up crying, and it was just horrifying," he said. The reality Friday was nothing like that. A spotless performance set a U.S. record with 99.86 points in his final nationals before retiring. "I wouldnt say it was a dream, because I was very in it," Abbott said. "I was very focused and very aware of what I was doing the entire program. I think thats why it was as good as it was." The three-time U.S. champ leads Richard Dornbush by 7.82 points heading into Sundays free skate. "Honestly, I have much more confidence in the long program than I do in the short program," Abbott said. The only time he came close to falling was when he nearly tumbled during his celebration afterward. The three jumps were perfect, his footwork exuberant. Hes dazzled like this before at U.S. Championships, but there have been few of these moments since his last title two years ago. Abbott often struggled as he overhauled his training program. "When things didnt work at competition, I believed in what weve done," he said. "And I just kept plugging at it, and it paid off tonight." Usually he bubbles with energy in the lead-up to nationals, his favourite event. The 28-year-old Abbott felt strangely nonchalant this year until the day before he headed to Boston. "I just realized that I was leaving and this was the last one," Abbott said. "I had this flood of emotion and excitement and fear and dread and passion and everything. Since Ive been here, its been really joyous." World champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White felt the same way earlier Friday in their short dance. The 2010 Olympic silver medallists are well on their way to a sixth straight U.S. title. Skating to selections from "My Fair Lady," Davis and White broke their own record with 80.69 points to build more than a seven-point lead on Madison Chock and Evan Bates. Siblings Maia and Alex Shibutani were third; three teams will go to Sochi. The free dance is Saturday. "This is the first time we felt comfortable enough to let things happen naturally," Davis said. "This is the fifth time were competing the program. With this program, its all about being comfortable enough to let things happen naturally, and when you reach a point where it can be just fun, thats what we really enjoy about skating." Abbott has enjoyed U.S. Championships far more than major international competitions in his career. He beat Evan Lysacek at the 2010 nationals before the last Olympics, only to finish ninth when his countryman captured gold in Vancouver. Abbott held the previous U.S. mark for a short program, 90.23 at the 2012 nationals. Dornbush, 22, has struggled since coming in second in 2011 and didnt even compete in the Grand Prix series this season. Only the second skater of the night, he was spectacular from the get-go Friday, landing a perfect quad and triple axel that had the fans entranced. By the time his 2 1/2-minute program was done, the crowd was on its feet, Dornbush was on his knees throwing an imaginary punch through the air and celebrating a career best. "Im not sure any thoughts went through my head," he said. "I was pretty excited, pretty pumped." Jason Brown was in third after a smokin skate to Princes "The Question of U." He even wore a black and purple costume embellished with rhinestones around his neck and down his back and side, plus Princes "love symbol" on the back. He nailed a triple axel and a triple flip-triple toe loop with gorgeous flow to open the program. Brown, who just turned 19, added a lutz with both hands above his head, footwork that meshed with every element and with every nuance of the music, and speedy spins that had the crowd roaring. "I think the whole season has pushed every guy to just really push themselves to their limits because anything is possible at this event," he said. Defending champion Max Aaron was fourth, one of five skaters to land a clean quad. The U.S. will send two men to Sochi. Abbott knows exactly what stands between him and a shot at Olympic redemption: eight jumping passes, 13 jumps, three spins and two series of footwork. "That was just fun," he said. "I love to figure skate. When you hit all the technical stuff and you do all the athletic part, thats when you can really enjoy the performance." ___ AP Sports Writers Barry Wilner and Jimmy Golen contributed to this report. David Fales Bears Jersey . Price also posted the longest shutout sequence since 1960 at 164:19 minutes. He stopped a combined 55 shots in Canadas final two games and 70 of 71 shots in Canadas three elimination games, allowing only a breakaway goal to Lauris Darzins of Latvia. For his efforts, Price was named best goalkeeper by the tournament directorate. Prices outstanding play is marred only by the extremely strong defensive play of Canadas top six defencemen; Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester. Jonathan Bullard Jersey . 25 against Miami. Hillis left Browns Stadium about two hours before kickoff, a decision that has led to speculation he was upset over ongoing negotiations with the club on a contract extension.Reggie Abercrombie saw a hanging curveball and ended the Winnipeg Goldeyes losing streak at five games. Gary Southshore RailCats reliever Ethan Gibbons left a curveball up and over the plate with Brock Bond on second and one out in the bottom of the 11th inning and Abercrombie drilled it over the left field wall to give the Goldeyes a 4-2 win over the RailCats on a cool, rainy Sunday afternoon at Shaw Park. With only a handful of the 5,232 who showed up to watch the Goldeyes finish a three-game series with Gary remaining in the ballpark, the Fish ended their longest slump of the season and improved to 35-19 with a thrilling 11th inning, walk-off, two-run bomb. "He left a curveball up in the zone and I was to get all of it," said Abercrombie who was still covered in shaving cream and talcum powder from the post-game celebration. "Like Ive said, Ive been struggling since we returned home from Fargo and Ive been doing a lot of extra work. But Rick (manager Forney) talked to me the other day and told me that everything would come around my teammates have been behind throughout the whole thing and I just cant say enough about them." With the victory, the Goldeyes remained 5 1/2 games ahead of St. Paul in the race for first in the American Associations North Division. The Saints will come to Winnipeg to play five games in about 2 1/2 days, starting Tuesday. Despite the victory, Forney said he was heartbroken from starter, Chris Salamida. After all, Salamida pitched 8 1/3 innings and didnt allow an earned run but didnt get the win because of an error in the ninth that turned a 2-0 Goldeyes lead into a 2-2 tie. "I really am heartbroken for Sal," Forney said. "He pitched his heart out today and he deserved to get the win. Im just so disappointed we couldnt get it for him. HHe was outstanding at a time when we needed a starter to be outstanding. Eddie Royal Bears Jersey. The bullpen has been great, but we needed to give them some time off and what Sal gave us today is exactly what we needed. The Goldeyes took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Luis Alen walked, Jordan Guida dropped down a sacrifice bunt and ended up being safe on an error that sent Alen to third. Tyler Kuhn drove home Alen with a solid single that sent Guida to third and Guida scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bond. Salamida proceeded to pitch brilliantly, but he was blindsided in the ninth. Garys Zac Mitchell singled, Ryan Babineau struck out looking and pinch hitter Cody Bishop doubled to score Mitchell. Brendan Lafferty replaced Salamida and he immediately got Wally Backman to hit a ground ball to first. But with the wet ball in the rain, first baseman Casey Haerther flipped the ball over Laffertys head, scoring Bishop to tie the game. The Goldeyes finished with four runs on six hits while Gary managed only two runs on 10 hits. In his first day as a member of the Goldeyes, newcomer Cephas Howard got the win (2-1, 3.86 ERA). Howard faced one batter in the 11th and got him to fly to left on the second pitch. Gibbons (0-1, 2.31 ERA) took the loss. There was no save. The Goldeyes will have Monday off then start a five-games-in-three-days series with a doubleheader on Tuesday night against the St. Paul Saints. Game 1 will be the completion of a game that was suspended due to rain on June 14. No pitchers have been determined for the continuation of the nine-inning game, which will start with two-out in the bottom of the third inning. In Game 2, a seven-inning game, Matt Jackson (7-3, 3.69 ERA) will get the start for Winnipeg while Nick Barnese (3-5, 3.63 ERA) will take to the bump for St. Paul. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Connecticut and Kentucky couldnt have met in last years championship game and few people gave them a chance to be in this years. Seth Joyner Eagles Jersey . Seventh-seeded Connecticut and eighth-seeded Kentucky meet Monday night in one of the unlikeliest NCAA championship games ever. Watch the game live on TSN at 8:30pm et/5:30pm pt. Neither was around in last years post-season -- Connecticut because of a tournament ban over academic issues; Kentucky because it didnt make the field. And neither looked like national title contenders at times this season. Kentucky (29-10) and its outstanding freshmen went from preseason No. 1 to out of the rankings after some bad losses. And Connecticut (31-8) was not a popular post-season pick after finishing tied for third in the American Athletic Conference with multiple losses to Louisville and SMU. In the tournament, the Huskies have stopped some of the countrys top guards and put themselves in position for their fourth national championship, the previous three under Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun. "Hopefully we have an opportunity to fall back on our defence," second-year coach Kevin Ollie said. "We have been doing that the whole year." If Kentucky has a chance to win in the final minute, that defence better pay attention to guard Aaron Harrison, one of five freshmen starters. He has hit huge 3-pointers in the Wildcats last three games. Harrison rattled in a 26-footer with 5.7 seconds to go in the 74-73 win over Wisconsin in the semifinals. He made almost the exact same shot with 2.3 seconds left against Michigan for a 75-72 win that sent the Wildcats to the Final Four. Against Louisville, he hit a 3 with 39 seconds left to give Kentucky the lead for good in a 74-69. "The biggest thing is hes not afraid to miss," Kentucky coach John Calipari said. "Hes OK with it. Hes comfortable in his own skin. ... If youre going to make those kind of shots, you absolutely cannot be afraid to miss them." These two programs have combined to win six of the last 18 NCAA titles. "Playing against Connecticut, I mean, Im just happy were still playing," Calipari said. Neither program could say that last year. Connecticut was banned from the post-season after failing to meet NCAA academic standard. It had practice limitations and lost a scholarship. The players could have transferred but didnt. The Huskies finished 20-10 in Ollies first year. They took the hit and made it back to the biggest stage. "Its actually very impressive," NCAA president Mark Emmert said Sunday. "To see that team hold together. I think its a commitment to those young men on that team that hung together." The leader of the group is All-American Shabazz Napier who leads the team in almost every statistical category. Hes the guy who makes the big shot or big pass. Fellow guard Ryan Boatright has taken some of the spotlight recently for his defensive performances against the likes of Keith Appling of Michigan State and Scottie Wilbekin of Florida. "Defence is the biggest thing for me. The points will come," Boatright said. "I want to make him uncomfortable, dont let him get in a rhythm or flow. Their guards, God blessed them with height and they will try to take advantage of smaller guys like us but Ive been the smaller guy my whole life and Ive never backed down." Kentucky is playing its best basketball lately, led by big man Julius Randle and the Harrison twins. "We just had too much talent and we saw in spurts how good we could be," Randle said, "so it just felt like it was a matter of time before it clicked." This is Caliparis fourth Final Four, but the first two -- Massachusetts in 1996 and Memphis in 2008 -- were vacated over NCAA rules violations. Now the Wildcats are on an 11-game winning streak in the NCAA tournament and they are one win from a ninth national championship for Kentucky. "We all play the game of basketball to compete against the best," Napier said. "This is one of them games. ... They worked hard to get to this point and we did too. San Antonio and Miami will decide the leagues champion for the second straight season, the Spurs earning their spot Saturday night by beating Oklahoma City 112-107 in overtime in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals. Miami -- the NBAs two-time defending champion -- eliminated Indiana from the East finals Friday night, also in six games. "The two best teams will meet," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "Were just happy and excited that were one of the best." The Spurs and Heat split two meetings this season, both winning by comfortable margins at home. Game 1 of this years Finals is Thursday night in San Antonio. "Its unbelievable to regain that focus after that devastating loss that we had last year," San Antonios Tim Duncan said. "But were back here. Were excited about it. Weve got four more to win. Well do it this time." Its the sixth trip to the Finals for San Antonio, which won titles in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007 before falling to the Heat last season in a series that had some unbelievable drama. The Spurs held a 3-2 series lead and were leeading by five points with 28. Nelson Agholor Womens Jersey. 2 seconds left in Game 6 at Miami, before Ray Allens 3-pointer capped a wild rally and forced overtime, where the Heat ultimately prevailed. Miami then won Game 7, 95-88. The Heat are heading to the Finals for the fourth straight season and fifth time overall, beating Dallas in 2006, losing to the Mavericks in 2011, then topping Oklahoma City in 2012 and the Spurs last season. The Spurs -- who had the leagues best regular-season record, 62-20 -- are now the eighth franchise in league history with at least six trips to the championship round, and would be just the fourth franchise with as many as five NBA titles. "We know were facing a very talented and tough team and its going to be rough," the Spurs Manu Ginobili said. "But of course, we believe in our means and were going to do our best, as always." Both teams have a multi-time Finals MVP. Duncan has won it three times for the Spurs; LeBron James has won it twice for the Heat, and will look to join only Michael Jordan and Shaquille ONeal on the list of players to receive that award in three consecutive seasons. The last Finals rematch came in 1998 when Chicago beat Utah for the last of Jordans six championships. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
ANAHEIM, Calif. Julius Thomas Youth Jersey . -- Centre Saku Koivu and goalie Jonas Hiller are done with the Anaheim Ducks. Koivu, Hiller and forward Daniel Winnik wont be offered contracts by the Ducks for next season, general manager Bob Murray confirmed Thursday. The Pacific Division champion Ducks are cutting ties with several dependable veterans after the best regular season in franchise history and a second-round playoff exit. Along with Teemu Selannes retirement, the departures of Koivu and Hiller will allow the Ducks young talent to assume bigger roles next season. Anaheim also is in the trade market for an elite centre. "Weve got younger players coming along that we had to move into the lineup," Murray said. "I thought it was best for this organization that we move forward a little bit. It was just time." The 39-year-old Koivu became a fan favourite during five seasons with the Ducks, even while his scoring production dwindled. The four-time Finnish Olympian was the longtime captain of the Montreal Canadiens. Murray said the Ducks decision on Koivu was "the hardest of the three. He had a great career." Murray isnt certain what Koivu will do next, but wouldnt be surprised if he decides to play in Finland. Koivu said last month he was contemplating retirement. The Ducks decision to part ways with Hiller means theyll head into next season with a new starting goalie for the first time since 2009. Hiller made an All-Star team, won a playoff series and consistently backstopped the Ducks through several seasons of frequently terrible defensive play in front of him, going 162-110-32 over seven years. But the Swiss netminder lost his starting job late in the regular season to Danish backup Frederik Andersen, and he played infrequently in the post-season while the Ducks went with Andersen and 20-year-old John Gibson, widely considered the top goaltending prospect in hockey. "Jonas did so much for us," Murray said. "But weve got pretty good kids there, so the writing was kind of on the wall." The 32-year-old Hiller had hoped to stay in Anaheim, but he joins Ryan Miller as the top goalies available in free agency. Anaheim signed the undrafted Hiller out of Switzerlands top league in May 2007. He beat out Ilya Bryzgalov for a roster spot and swiftly seized the starting job from Jean-Sebastien Giguere, the Stanley Cup-winning starter and franchises winningest goalie. "Its funny how it comes full circle," Murray said. Hiller won 14 consecutive decisions during his final season with the Ducks, and he shut out the Los Angeles Kings at Dodger Stadium in January. Andersen and Gibson both struggled at times in the playoffs, but confirmed he wasnt in the Ducks plans when he got just two post-season starts even after Andersen struggled and eventually got injured. Gibson was mediocre in the Ducks final two losses to the Kings, but Anaheim stuck with its youth over Hillers experience. Winnik spent the past two years with the Ducks, scoring 30 points in 76 games last season. Murray emerged from his post-season meetings eager to retool the Ducks, who finished atop the Western Conference and won their second straight division title at 54-20-8. Anaheim beat Dallas in the first round of the post-season, but blew a 3-2 lead in the second round against the rival Kings, losing to the eventual Stanley Cup champions in seven games. The Ducks also are in the market for a veteran centre after failing to land Vancouvers Ryan Kesler at last springs trade deadline. Anaheim has been linked in discussions for Kesler, Ottawas Jason Spezza and San Joses Joe Thornton. Anaheim has a wealth of assets for a deal, including four draft picks in the first two rounds and an impressive collection of prospects in one of the NHLs best farm systems. "I think were in good shape if the right deal is there," Murray said. OAKLAND, Calif. Tyreek Hill Youth Jersey . -- Catcher Yan Gomes finds no issues in making a long-term commitment to the Cleveland Indians. He is confident the franchises strides in a turnaround 2013 season will carry over to future success starting this season. Gomes and the Indians completed a $23 million, six-year contract Monday after his breakout performance last season. "It goes into what it means to be in this organization. Youve got younger guys like ourselves just wanting to be here," Gomes said. "Were potentially signing a big amount of our careers. Theres not another place I would want to be with, especially from the top to the bottom here. Its the organization you want to be with." That feeling is mutual, even if Gomes provided a small sample size of the impact he can make behind the plate and with the bat. Assistant general manager Mike Chernoff and others in the front office are impressed with Gomes constant work to better learn Clevelands pitchers so they all find a comfort zone together. Gomes deal includes club options for 2020 and 21 that could bring the total to $42 million over eight years -- or even $48 million with escalators. "This is the organization I want to be with, that actually made it pretty easy," Gomes said before the scheduled opener in rain-soaked Oakland. "Im so thankful for that. My wife and I are excited to be Cleveland Indians for a while now. ... We got a little taste of the post-season last year. Thats what we play for." Gomes hit .294 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs in 88 games last season, his first with the Indians. The Indians went 49-30 when Gomes started, and manager Terry Francona went with Gomes during crucial games down the September stretch. "Its kind of been the motto of my career -- Ive always had to battle. Its not going to stop," Gomes said. "This is a huge blessing getting a contract like this, but now were talking about taking this team to another level." His new deal supersedes a previous one-year contract for 2014. The deal replaces a contract he agreed to in early March calling for a $513,000 salary in the majors and $281,000 in the minors. Gomes receives a $500,000 signing bonus, payable within 30 days of the contracts approval, and salaries of $550,000 salary this year, $1 million in 2015, $2.5 million in 2016, $4.5 million in 2017, $5.95 million in 2018 and $7 million in 2019. Cleveland has a $9 million option for 2020 with a $1 million buyout, and if that is exercised the Indians would have an $11 million option for 2021. The options may escalate by up to $3 million each based on MVP voting, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards, and All-Star appearances. "Hes shown us that hes worth this contract," Francona said. "We have that much faith in him, and thats pretty amazing for a young kid with that kind of track record, or lack of track record, for us to buy in that much. So thats a pretty good compliment to him." Negotiations began during spring training. The deal with Gomes will keep Clevelands young core together for years to come. "You hope that these deals are win-win deals," Chernoff said. "They all want to be here. Its an environment, a culture, that people want to be a part of." The 26-year-old -- the first Brazilian-born player in the majors -- began last season at Triple-A Columbus, but after being brought up in April he stayed the rest of the year and was a major contributor as the Indians made the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Gomes was acquired from Toronto on Nov. 2, 2012. "He is the guy that, in spring training as were having these talks with him about a long-term contract, hes putting in more and more time to try to get to know the pitchers to build on where he was last year," Chernoff said. "Hes also a great organizational story. Our scouts worked really hard to identify Yan with Toronto and find a way to get him in a deal." Gomes was set to start and bat ninth in the season opener. Francona expressed his gratitude for the process. "I got a chance to maybe have a little bit of a front-row seat and it was kind of cool," he said. "Because those things just dont happen, in todays game especially, with the amount of dollars were talking about. ... To see them kind of work through it was really interesting. Its kind of a proud moment for our organization, because we got a guy that we really think a lot of tied up for a long time. Hes going to be a big part of what we do." Chiefs Hats . Ferrer was unable to find his rhythm in losing 6-4, 6-2 to Teymuraz Gabashvili in his opening match while Nadal struggled past fellow Spanish player Albert Ramos 7-6 (2), 6-4. (SportsNetwork. Jim Plunkett Jersey .com) - The Cleveland Cavaliers have won two of their last three, but will face a stiff challenge Sunday when the Memphis Grizzlies pay a visit to Quicken Loans Arena. The Cavs are 2-1 on this five-game homestand which ends Tuesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Cleveland rebounded from an embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday with a four-point victory Friday over the Brooklyn Nets. Mike Miller scored a season-high 21 points in a rare start and the Cavaliers bounced back from their worst loss of the season with a 95-91 win over the Nets. Miller hit 7-of-8 from behind the arc in his first start of the season and LeBron James scored 22 points with nine assists for Cleveland, which was coming off a 29-point home loss to Atlanta on Wednesday. Hes a professional guy, you can always count on him, James said of Miller. His ability to shoot the ball gives us so much more of a dynamic out there. Miller, who hadnt played since Dec. 4, had just 19 points in 13 games all season before Friday. Kyrie Irving chipped in 16 while Kevin Love had his worst shooting performance in a Cavs uniform, going 1-for-10 for six points. Love, however, finished with a game-high 14 rebounds. The Grizzlies had a six-game winning streak snapped on Friday night with a 103-97 home loss against the Chicago Bulls. Memphis has won two straight on the road. Mike Conley deposited 21 points on 7-of-18 shooting and Beno Udrih posted 15 points in the setback. Memphis was coming off a triple-overtime road win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. Tonight we didnt have enough effort for the most part because of very tired legs, Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger. We couldnt get inside their defense... We have to tip our hats to them. They are a good team. Grizzlies center Marc Gasol contributed 13 points with 10 rebounds, while his brother, Pau, was held to six points to go along with 11 rebounds for Chicago. Memphis managed to cut its eight-point halftime deficit to 73-66 after three quarters. The Grizzlies got it to a two-point game, but ETwaun Moore, a seldom-used Chicago reserve, hit two free throws with 53 seconds left. Chicago hung on for the win after Conley missed a 3-pointer. The Bulls held the Grizzlies to 2-for-13 shooting from beyond the arc. Grizzlies guard Tony Allen missed the game with a right corneal abrasion The Grizzlies have won five of the last six meetings with the Cavaliers, but Cleveland has won eight of the last nine matchups with Memphis as the host. Bo Jackson Womens Jersey .
